Just got in from the Twisted wheel. An excellent start to the Mod weekender with Mikey Collins , Paul Molloy and Lenny Harkins on the Decks plus the live sounds of The Privates supplemented by Tom on Trumpet. Four great scooters parked on Queen street and vistors from Norway and Sweden.
Still to come
The Winchester Club, Bell Street will host the fabulous Friday and Saturday club nights, where dancers can expect to hear well known quality mod tunes played by club dj’s representing the cream of the British mod scene. Long time supporters of the Glasgow Mod Weekender, Rob Bailey from London (New Untouchables & Le Beat Bespoke), Sheffield’s Gav Arno and Mik Parry (Pow Wow club) and local boy Neil Donaldson (better known as the lead singer of Figure 5) join residents Mikey Collins, Paul Molloy and Lenny Harkins, for a weekend of rhythm and soul, ska and psych which must not be missed.
Saturday afternoon at The Twisted Wheel has a one hour set from Glasgow rhythm and blues band The Five Aces, as well as guest djs, record and clothing stalls. The Five Aces sound was described by radio and tv presenter Mark Lamarr as “imagine the Small Faces meeting The Poets and jamming with Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker… I love it!” Paul Jones (Radio 2) called it “wonderfully original rhythm and blues.”
On Sunday afternoon there’s music from guest dj’s inside the Twisted Wheel, but outside a sight to behold will be an expected 80 or more scooters, all lined up in preparation for the cruise around Glasgow.
The goodbye party on Sunday night in the basement of the Twisted Wheel is a great way to round off your weekend.
