Although Dee’s of Trongate has been mentioned, did anybody else shop in his other stores ? I was going through Partick the other day and I remembered I sometimes used to get stuff out his Partick Shop and even out the Clydebank store on the odd occasion. Thought it should be included !
I have heard that old owner of the site chestnut before.
When you say it was the East End Mods that started the site, did you not mean started the fight.
All kidding aside I spent many a happy day at my cousins in Provanhall in Easterhouse. (no I’m not mad) He was the only Mod in the whole of that scheme. And when I used to go up on my scooter all these wee tiny Elvis rockabilly lookalikes used to shout all sorts of abuse at me. I knew a lot of EE boys and they were great guys, despite coming from the wrong part of the city.
Charlie was deposed off due to him being an owner of the site and had a head start it was only fair to give someone else the crown for now…….. EE mods give way to the lesser mortals…….. However it was the EE boys that started the site so we get more drinking points for initiative. LOL
Hi holly looking forward to coming over and experiencing the buckaroo….. you should check out my pal Russell Brennans new band ho have just got signed up…
I think someone will need to draw arrows on the photo with the names of people they feel are in it attached. I think I know of 16 people who are in the photo. Of all the people on scooters in the front the only ones (I think) I do not know are the guy with the long hair on the far left who is sitting next to John who worked in Mickey Oates, the guy with a stripped jumper and a semblence of a tash, who is sitting on what may be wee Bob kellys PX, and the guy in the black harrington on the far right with Bobo from the east end above him. Either that or I am going crackers. On second thoughts I am probably going crackers.
Looking for some info here if anybody can help out, I have a 45 on a band called
The Anteeeks from 1966 Philips label (326747 1F) called “I Don’t Want You” written by Pete Dello/Brian Potter,I would love to know the history of the band,
even a photo of them, I bought the record 25 years ago for 75 pence,in The Briggait, the B Side is “Ball And Chain” written by Ed.Rabbitt/Tricia Carr.I would
be grateful if anybody with an interest in British Psychedelia let me know if The
Anteeeks had anymore singles released or an LP. Thanks Charlie
Your copy appears to be a legal re issue. Pete Dello of course was with The Honeycombs and left them to write songs.
“Actually there’s a nice Pete Dello penned # called “I Don’t Want You”
recorded by The Anteeks in the U.K (on the flip of their version of The
Great Scot’s “Ball And Chain”). Released in March 1966 Good snotty farfisa punk. It’s on the
“Psychedelia Volume 3″ lp comp. Traffic Jam (pre-Status Quo) covered it on a
BBC session that was bootlegged ages ago on a seven inch e.p”
Charlie found this:
Drums: George Butler. George was part of Giant Moth with Alex Harvey, Ian Dury & The Kilburns and has drummed for The Deviants, Brian Ferry and Elvis Costello amongst many others. Check out “I Don’t Want You” the classic single by George’s first band the Anteeeks (1967). George is well known for his even temper. Guitar: Brady. Formerly lead guitarist with the legendary Hollywood Brats, the band who invented punk in 1972! A long time drinking partner and guitarist for Wreckless Eric, Brady is, at one and the same time, Irish and my hero. Bass: John Proctor. John also plays bass for Monkey Seed and The Blues Academy. He has a lovely suit and often smiles wryly during rehearsals. Vocals: Billy Oblivion. I have now been Billy Oblivion since 1976 and I intend to carry on being me for a lot longer. Oh yes!! The Legendary DNA Cowboys are well known for their anti drink & drugs stance.
Thanks Felonius an Jimmy at admin and The Anteeeks come from Scotland? Brilliant info, thanks a million, you never stop learning new things in life, I am made up with the info, I always played the B side because I thought it was better, than “I Don’t Want You” Billy Oblivion? What a name,it’s right up there
with Captain Sensible! I wonder where The Anteeeks got their name from? Thanks for all the info.

Today was a nice surprise in my email inbox, recieved from Allan Spencer (Speno) was a slideshow of the old scooter club, The MaryHill Roadrunners, which eventually phased into the RoadRunners (Glasgow) based in Glasgow, myself and allan go back a long way’s, so everyone who knows Speno well enough will know that this was a big leap for him to part with something that he has kept in his attic all those years. We thank you for sharing and we hope it brings a lot of enjoyment to everyone who visits us.
Allan found the website and loved what he saw that he felt compelled to put his own slideshow together and send it over for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks allan this is exactly what GlasgowMods website was set up for, to see if we can pull some great photos together for sharing the old memories. I hope you all enjoy the slideshow as much as we all did here at the website.
This is where we will post the photos and links to any photo slideshows here for your convenience. Just click the thumbnails below to take you to the slideshows for each. I am reliably informed that for the record, there were 2 phases too the Maryhill Roadrunners which eventually became encapsulated into the RoadRunners (Glasgow). The section is in two parts, one is a photos slideshow and the other is a video of the photos thanking the people who sent us and trusted us to take care of their treasured photos.
Thank You for supporting the site. Jimmy and Charlie.
Oooops that went before I was finished!! Was going to say that they photos sure bring back memories - fantastic :0)
I spent the best part of 20 minutes screaming at the screen as it went through the photos - was chuffed to see myself in the background in the One Up photos then nearly passed out when the one of me, Audrey, Sharon & Cammy appeared - was I ever that young???
There must be more photos of the One Up and the Hawaiian Grill out there somewhere??
I am detemined to get down……….. you aint gonna believe it the 5 aces are playing the same day @ a blues festival in Montrose………….But I am debating it lol….
