Glasgow Mods 79 - present

Glasgow and The Mods.

The difference between 79 - 86 Mods and the Mods of the Sixties was very significant. the sixties crew were formed within there territorial quarters of glasgow, maryhill, easterhouse, pollok and so on. The eighties crowd were initially segregated into there domains, but towards 81 they started to form into one group regardless where they came from and they came from all over and mixed, everyone was welcome, this was unheard of for a place like glasgow that has its gangs even in todays NED culture cocooned into there little domains.

The 79 onward period was very much revival period, started by Quadrophenia which propelled itself into the popular scene, although there was a few revival pockets already in place before the movie, however the The Who’s Quadrophenia injected adrenalin into the genre and it captured the imagination of the youth across all of the UK.

    Hello April
It was good to meet you again and enjoyed the time while I was there. Unfortunatly I was doing my Taxi Driver and couldn’t have a drink.
I’m sure with all the work Jimmy and Charlie are doing on this site we’ll hopefully get a few more of the old familiar faces coming back.
I don’t think I’ll make the melting pot this Saturday but I will be looking forward to the next Friday Street and will keep in touch.
It was good to meet you to Charlie and bringing back those Brookes Bar/Scene Club memories. Look forward to viewing the photographs especially the Blonde with her Sugar Daddy.
    Cheers folks
    Robert

Robert, it was great to see you again on Friday, sorry I didn’t get a lot of chance to catch up with you. First time I haven’t been the taxi for a while and I had a bit much to drink, lol.I remember a lot of people you’ve mentioned and those were great times.

The only reasin it isn’t the same just now is because we aren’t all around, get all the gang down there and it’ll be just like old times.

Hopefully see you again soon, oh and you’re looking well.

    Hello April

I grew up with Billy, Wee Doby, John Mann, Nabby, Jamie Hay, Tony and Ged Skivington. We all got into the Mod scene at the same time and had some cracking parties in Cranhill. I was at the milk stealing party or may’be that was always something we did the morning after. Brilliant times though and met up with good people like Davie Malcolm, Bobo from Gathamlock, Stevie Phillips and Wee Mackie from Carntyne, Mackie from Milton, Big Tank from Easterhouse, Wee Bernie from Barrowfield, Wee Rod the Mod from Shettleson, Welchy from Springburn loads of others from Dennistoun, Sighthill and Barrowfield. I remember your name because I have a friend now called April, but remember a girl who went around with us all back then with the same name. Enjoying being back on the scene again although it’s a lot different from then. Met up with Davie Malcolm as I said on last note and bump into my old mate Jamie Tracy at Friday street now and again. Have got back in touch again with Doc from Cranhill and Gordon Prentice(Prenty) and they both are back on Scooters doing the Rallies and all that stuff. Cranhill is a lot diifferent now and unfortunatly Tony Skivington was a victim of the drug scene there and died a few years ago. Don’t know what has become of the rest but I bet they still talk about the Mods and good times of the early 80’s.
