More remembered for being the backing band to Lulu and storming the charts with “Shout” in 1964, here we have a rare 45 by The Luvvers from 1966, called “Most Unlovely” which was the B side and can only be described as an uptempo club dancer.
The line up for The Luvvers at the time of “Shout” was Alec Bell and Ross Nelson on (guitars), David Miller (drums), Jimmy Smith (saxophone), Jimmy Dewar (bass/vocals). But
because little is known of the band when they parted ways with Lulu, it is hard to know what the line up was on this recording. The only thing that I can find is that Alec Bell was the sole remaining original member, and I would guess the track was written by the band.
It’s very diffucult too speculate if the band was gigging in Scotland or in the London area and how the record contract came into place. The A side was a cover of the Manfred Mann track “The House On THe Hill” but is more sought after for the B side. If you have any information which can add to the story of The Luvvers, we would only be too glad to hear. Both sides are here for all to enjoy and start tapping those feet.
