Great sounds from the Munk, chat about this years mod weekender.

  2. CharlieM Says:

Got some info on Simon Dupree And The Big Sound for you Felonius,, the band started out as The Howling Wolves, and then The Road Runners, playing hardcore R’n'B around the Portsmouth area the eldest of the Shulman brothers within the band Phil, sax and trumpet player, was born in Glasgow in 1937,Ray and Derek were both Portsmouth born, “60 Minutes Of Your Love/A Lot Of Love(Medley)” was one of the records I played to death in The One Up days gone by, brings back good memories. I will do a “special” on them soon. I will do my best to hopefully pick the best of the bands music, perhaps not the Abbey Road produced “Kites” with actress Jackie Chan haunting poetry recital, their biggest hit, brilliant set of tunes played here, even Govans very own Alex’s Harveys tune, being aired, good on you. To Mikey and the Mod Weekender crew long may it continue.Awra best!

  3. CharlieM Says:

Hello to Robert, Div,Chris,Mitch,Danny The Mod and the 200 or so Scooterist and Mods, I perhaps met, bumped into its a blast, we taken Glasgow by surprise as per usual, we’re all in this, good to meet quite a few of your kids, also, I think Mr Bailie of Perth is starting his own Scooter Club, a LOT of kids!! lol! Good on you,Queen Street was buzzing to our tune, a 4 day Mod Fest. some stunning Scooters on display, pictures to follow a.s.a.p. To top it off I met a Punk with a Mohican while going past The Central Station, how can he run so fast with his Docs on? BEEP,BEEP!! ROADRUNNER! I was in Mod 79 heaven! Cheers Big Man, you made my Weekender!

  4. Davie Blair Says:

Enjoyed the ride out but no-one seemed to know where we were supposed to be going. Group got split up from the scoots in front so it became a bit of a guessing game.
Other than that, it was great to be part of such a large group of scoots drivin through the toon.
    Well enjoyable!!

  5. ChrisC Says:

Great night last night at the Winchester. I would have paid double the entrance fee just for the honour of hearing Smokey Robinson and the Miracles ‘Mickey’s Monkey’ in a club once again. Brilliant.

I was also down for the ride out to day. And, as Charlie said, it was good to meet a lot of people for the first time, as well as the first time in years. I took a good few photos of the scooters as well as some with some of the people such as Mitch,Stew, and Paul Viola. It was also great to see such a good turnout, both last night, and to day for the ride out. I also agree with Charlie that some of the scooters were absolutely top drawer. I will send the photos in at some point during the week.

  6. Davie Blair Says:

Nice 1 chris - lookin forward to them - did you get a pic of a shiny red rally 200 by any chance :)

  7. Robert Says:

Still buzzing about today and the scene just seems to be getting better even though I’m getting older, but always a Mod. Great idea Paul Viola to meet up at Coia’s Cafe and even though the Coffee wasn’t free(lol), it was worth waiting for. Nice one Charlie on organising the photo shoot at the end and we are the mods sing a long. look forward to seeing the photo’s. Loads of good Scooters and biggest and best surprise of the day was meeting up with old Cranhill Mod Billy Cunnigham.Good to see you mate after 20 odd years, see you a Scooter soon.

  8. CharlieM Says:

Hi Robert bet Billy was surprised, we were all still around, a lot of “Faces” I met today from The Scene Club, terrific day, it certainly made wee Rab Mac’s 14 year old brothers day, his eyes lit up when he saw all of us, a special thanks to Jim Nairn for giving the wee man a “backie” Cheers Mikey for playing “Tin Soldier” and “Green Onions” to round off The Weekender, the vibes were all around, a very “special” Weekender has closed till next year, roll on 2009!!!

  9. JimmyTheMod Says:

chris get your photos over and I will add them to roberts lot….. great to see everyone having a good time…

  10. ChrisC Says:

I am sure I did manage to get a photo of the red 200 rally Davie. Someone (Stu) was telling me about it and I took a photo of the group of scooters that included that one, I’m sure.

Great to meet a lot of good people, like EE boys Robert (who’s photos are great) and Paul, as well as guys that I knew such as Mitch and Stu. My only regret is that I had to leave to give my son a lift to work, and I missed all the scooters leaving for the ride out. It would have been really good to get a few snaps of all those scooters leaving at the one time, takes you back to 81. I just wish my hair was as good as it was in 81.

  11. Danny Says:

    What a great weekend,

great to see everyone. Charlie, i’m still convinced you were signing autographs on Sunday when i seen you, lol. Great to see you mate.

Davie, will you be Modding up that Rally 200 mate??

I agree with Davie that the ride out downside was the group getting split up. We should have stopped the traffic and went through the red lights and roundabouts etc. I dont think the police would have been too willing to pull us all in!

At a recent ride-out (Cider Circle S.C.) certain scooters controlled the traffic by lining up in front of the traffic lights roundabouts to stop the cars,so all the scoots could travel together, we should have done that.

Charlie your suggestion about all the scooters going up to George Square was a good one, the square was empty and it would have made a great picture mate.

We could then have ridden through the Barras and down the clydeside.

Great to see you Rab, and chatting about some old exploits, they don’t seem that long ago!

The next reunion doo should be a great one.

I met Kenny Redpath at the Whitby Rally and we had a chat about the reunion night. Whitby was a good rally, but a wee bit too far to travel home with a massive hangover!
